GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Lewis University's women's lacrosse team started fast but fell to Davenport 21-8 on Saturday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Flyers drop to 1-10 on the season and 1-9 in the GLIAC while the Panthers improve to 8-6 overall and 5-4 in the GLIAC.
Lewis scored four goals in the first eight minutes to get out to an early three-goal lead with
Alyson Jines (Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley High School) recording three of them. The Panthers though scored five straight goals in the span of 10 minutes to take a 6-4 lead.
Jines made it 6-5 with 6:03 left in the opening half but Davenport scored the final four goals of the half to take a 10-5 lead into the locker room.
The Panthers extended their lead scoring six goals in the first seven-plus minutes of the second half. Scarlett Kellner and
Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard High School) each scored in the span of eight minutes to cut the lead to 10 but Davenport countered scoring three straight to build its largest lead of the game.
Bri Fairfield (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) scored her first goal of the season for Lewis with less than two minutes to play in the contest.
Jines led the Flyers with six shots while
Patricia Fotto (Pasadena, CA/La Salle High School) picked up five ground balls, Kellner won four draw controls and
Madeline Scherf (Waukesha, WI/Waukesha South High School) caused four turnovers.
Lewis plays its final home contest of the season on Wednesday (April 24) hosting McKendree at 7 p.m.
