ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's tennis team defeated Bellarmine 5-2 Friday (April 5) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
With the win the Flyers moved to 4-6 overall, 2-0 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine dropped to 10-7 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC.
Lewis took two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles team of
Oana Carmen Trus (Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania/Regele Ferdinand) and
Aleksandra Sredojevic (Belgrade, Serbia) defeated Ashley Jonathan and Maggie Walroth 7-5, while the No. 2 tandem of
Tereza Pilzova (Prague, Czech Republic) and
Joie Reisch (LaGrande Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) beat Ava Ratcliff and Jennifer Skonieczny 6-2. The No. 3 team of
Sarah Markun (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) fell to Madison Devillez and Aubrey Smith 6-1.
In singles Trus won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 over Skonieczny, Pilzova beat Jonathan 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 2, Sredojevic topped Walroth 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Reisch topped Ratcliff 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 at No. 4. Davis fell 6-3, 6-2 to Smith at No. 5 and Markun was defeated by Devillez 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
Lewis is back on the courts Saturday morning when it faces GLVC foe Indianapolis at 11 a.m.
