INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis' men's tennis team was edged by Ferris State 4-3 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at Center Grove High School in Indianapolis. The Flyers, seeded fifth, end the season with a record of 10-6 while the Bulldogs, seeded fourth, improve to 11-11 and will take on Indianapolis in the second round of the tournament on Sunday.
Lewis took the first point of the match by winning two of the three doubles contests.
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia) and
Brendan Peterson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) teamed up at No. 2 doubles to knock off Mathis Guerre and Pablo Munoz Baroja 7-6 (7-3). At No. 3 doubles it was
Pedja Trifunovic () and Anton Levition defeating Cedric Rupa and Jack Seymour 6-3.
Alan Braschinsky (Tallinn, Estonia/Milna Harma) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) were defeated by Steward Sell and Nur Ramdani Iswan 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
The Flyers won two of the first three singles matches as Peterson defeated Connor Douglas in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Braschinsky knocked off Sell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Lusti lost at No. 2 singles retiring to Ramdani Iswan. Lewis needed to win just one of the final three matches but were unable too. Ambrozic lost to Munoz Baroja 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Trifunovic dropped the opening set to Guerre at No. 4 singles 6-4 but came back to win set 6-3. He dropped the final set 6-3.
Chandler Stimpert (Graceland, Ill./Morton) fell at No. 5 singles in three sets to Ayush Deswal 2-6, 6-4, 3-6.
