ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' baseball team wrapped up its 2019 regular season with a 4-1 win over Truman State at Brennan Field on Saturday (May 4). With the win the Flyers improve to 27-22 on the season and 19-14 in the GLVC while the Bulldogs fall to 7-34, 7-26 GLVC.
Lewis moved a half-game in front of Indianapolis for seventh place in the GLVC standings. The Greyhounds and Quincy conclude their three-game series with a single game on Sunday in Indianapolis. Bellarmine, the other team in the mix for the final two playoff spots, begins a three-game series against Illinois Springfield with a doubleheader on Sunday.

Ryan Ward (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) was fantastic as well. He's been a go to guy for us all year and he really came up big again today.
"Offensively, we did just enough to again today to come away with the win," he continued. "Overall I'm very proud of how this team turned things around over the last 25 game or so and it was great to see the seniors win their last home game."
The Flyers jumped on top with a run in the third inning. With runners on first and third and one out,
Anthony Cavalieri (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) hit a grounder to third and hustled down the line to beat the relay throw to bring in
Michael O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic).
Lewis added two more runs in the fourth on four consecutive singles.
Austin Tittle (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) drove in
Anthony Rios (Lemont, Ill./St. Laurence) with a single to left to make it 2-0 and later in the inning O'Brien hit a sacrifice fly to left to score
Matt Verdun (Homer Glen, Ill./St. Rita).
The Flyers added another run in the fifth on
Ryan Schefske's (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) infield single to third with the infield drawn in to drive in Cavalieri.
Truman loaded the bases with no one out in the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate.
Ryan Ward (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) came in and allowed a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Evan Kayser before getting a pop out and a strike out to end the threat.
Lewis finished with 11 hits in the contest and was led by Cavalieri and Schefske with two apiece.
Brad Littleton (Coal City, Ill./) picked up the win allowing no runs on three hits with nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work to improve to 5-2. Ward picked up his second save of the season going the final three innings allowing a hit with four strikeouts.
The Flyers will find out Monday if they'll advance to next weekend's GLVC Tournament in Ozark, Mo., beginning Thursday (May 9).
