SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia) and Juan Martin Ramirez Meija of the Lewis University men's tennis team won the A Flight Doubles at the UIS Tournament, played this past Friday and Saturday in Springfield, Ill.
The duo defeated Lindenwood's Juan Pablo Herrera and Francisco Retamal Diaz 8-2 in their quarterfinal match, then defeated Illinois Springfield's Menno Servaes and Tomas Martinez 8-3 and beat Missouri-St. Louis's Adrian Lessing and Karl Heinrichs in the finals 8-3.
Ramirez Meija and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) each went 2-1 in the A Flight Singles advancing to the semifinal round where they were defeated by Ben Ksprzak and Heinrichs respectively.
Ambrozic went 1-1 in the A Flight Singles beating Herrera in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 before losing to Kasprzak in the quarterfinals in three sets 7-6, 3-6, 10-12.
Pedja Trifunovic () went 2-1 in the B Flight Singles defeating UMSL's Milan Kovacs in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 and then defeated Lindenwood's Juan Balbin 7-6, 6-7, 10-6 before losing to UIS's Rafa Rojas in the semifinals 6-4, 6-3.
