ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lewis women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. The Flyers fall to 3-3, 1-2 GLVC while the Lions improve to 2-3, 1-2 GLVC.
Lewis had four good scoring chances during a 10-minute stretch in the second half taking four shots but unfortunately were unable to put on anything on goal. The Flyers had three shots hit off the crossbar and another one that missed high.
Lindenwood scored the game-winner in the 70th minute off a corner kick. Alaina White sent the ball into the box and Maggie Miller scored into the upper left corner.
Lewis came right back with a chance two minutes later but
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) missed a shot high.
Payton Emond (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) had a chance to tie the game in the 81st minute but her shot missed wide right. Havelka-Vanderplow had another chance in the 87th minute that went wide right and
Alex Dennis (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) tried to score in the lower right corner but her shot was saved by Megan Swanson with 2:40 left in regulation.
The Lions outshot the Flyers 14-12, 6-2 in shots on goal and had a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England) made five saves for Lewis.
The Flyers continue their four game roadtrip on Friday traveling to Maryville for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
