Flyers Battle To Draw At Lindenwood

Lewis picks up its fifth shutout of the season.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lewis' men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw at Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo.

The Flyers are now 5-0-1, 2-0-1 GLVC on the season, while the Lions are 2-1-2, 2-0-1 GLVC.

Lewis had the advantage for much of the first half taking six shots and putting two of those on goal and also had three corner kicks.

The Flyers continued to fill up the stat sheet taking 11 shots in the second half but were only able to put one on goal while Lindenwood took eight shots and had four shots on goal. C.J. Couper (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) kept the game scoreless for Lewis making four saves in the stanza.

The Flyers had a chance to win the game in the 94th minute but Oliwer Mattiasson's (Vanerborg, Sweden) shot was saved by Tim Licht. The Lions had a chance as well but Thomas Hutcheson's shot went wide.

Lewis had three chances to win the game in the first three minutes of the final 10 minutes but Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) had a shot blocked, Timm Adler (Frankenthal Rheinland-Pfalz Germany/Karolinen-Gymnasium Frankenthal) missed one wide and John Oshakpemhe (Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria/Al-Mukhtar Secondary School) had an attempt saved.

Lindenwood had two chances in the final two minutes at the game-winner but Couper made two saves with the final one coming with 0:18 left in the contest.

The Flyers outshot the Lions 21-15 in the contest but Lindenwood had the edge in shots on goal 6-5. Lewis had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. Couper finished the game with six saves to post his fifth shutout of the season.

The Flyers continue their four game roadtrip on Friday traveling to Maryville for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
