ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' men's soccer team wraps up its four match road trip with another trip to the Show-Me State to take on sixth ranked Maryville on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Missouri S&T on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Flyers improved to 5-0-1 after picking up a win and a draw last weekend in St. Louis. Lewis opened the week with a 2-0 win at Missouri-St. Louis last Friday and then battled to a scoreless draw at Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon in St. Charles.
Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) and
Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) accounted for both goals in the win over the Tritons while
C.J. Couper (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) picked up back-to-back shutouts for his fourth and fifth of the season.
D-FENSE: The Flyer defense has been stout through the first six matches allowing one goal and limiting the opposition to just 65 shots with only 26 of those reaching goals. Lewis ranks second in Division II in save percentage and shutout percentage and is third in goals against average. Couper leads Division II in goals against average and save percentage.
Regionally Ranked: The Flyers remain fifth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Midwest Regional rankings. Lewis is one of six teams from the GLVC ranked in this week's top 10. Maryville is the top ranked team in the region, Bellarmine is fourth, Indianapolis is seventh, Truman State is ninth and McKendree rounds out the top 10.
About Maryville: The Saints enter Friday's contest with a record of 6-0 and are 3-0 in GLVC play. Maryville is averaging nearly three goals per game and has yielded a total of three goals. The Saints picked up back-to-back shutouts last weekend defeating Drury 2-0 and Southwest Baptist 4-0.
Braden Johnson leads the Maryville attack with four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points. Ben Brodie and Grady Schliepsiek have scored three goals apiece. Liam Walraven has played the majority of time in goal posting 0.52 goals against average, has made seven saves and posted two shutouts.
About Missouri S&T: The Miners enter Sunday's game with a record of 2-3, 1-2 in the GLVC after splitting last weekend. S&T opened the weekend with a 4-2 win over Southwest Baptist last Friday and then dropped a high scoring affair at Drury 4-3 on Sunday.
Shane Cairns and Trey Haman lead the Miners offensively with two goals apiece. Cairns leads the team in points with five. Nick Posey has seen a majority of the minutes in goal. He's allowed 13 goals with a goals against average of 2.65.
