ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis' women's soccer team dropped its season opener at Ashland 2-0 on Friday evening in Ashland, Ohio. The Flyers were outshot in the contest 13-5 and 5-3 in shots on goal.
The Eagles (1-0) broke the scoreless tie in the 19th minute when Deijah Swihart scored with an assist from Nadya Boualany. The Flyers (0-1) had a chance to tie the game in the 28th minute but
Alissa Waits (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) shot was saved by Hannah Lee.
Lewis had another chance in the 34th minute but
Allie Mikos' (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) shot was saved by Lee.
Ashland added to its lead with a goal in the 36th minute when Stephanie Slader scored with an assist from Mary Grace Haney.
The Eagles had a 9-3 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes with four of those being on goal.
The Flyers had a chance to cut the lead in half in the 60th minute but
Kailey Parnello's (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) shot was saved. Lewis had another chance in the 63rd minute but
Karlie Cummins (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) shot went wide.
Lewis concludes its two-game road trip on Sunday visiting Tiffin in an 11 a.m. (CDT) contest.
