ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team opens a four-game homestand on Thursday evening hosting in GLVC newcomer Lindenwood at 5:30 p.m. The homestand continues on Saturday with a visit from the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis.
Last Time Out – The Flyers extended their winning streak to seven with an 86-77 at Illinois Springfield on Monday evening.
Katie Gardner (Franklin, Wis./Pius XI) scored 15 points in the final quarter hitting six of seven shots and was 2-for-3 from beyond the arc and had five rebounds.
Intriguing Matchup – Thursday's match-up pits two of the top scorers in the GLVC this season. Lindenwood's Kallie Bildner is second in the conference averaging 21.3 points per contest while
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) is third in the league at 19.5 points per game.
Alumni Day – Saturday's game against Missouri-St. Louis is Lewis Athletic Alumni Day. The women's team will host an Alumni game at 10:30 a.m. in the Lewis Fieldhouse and alums in attendance will be recognized at halftime. The second class of the Lewis Academy of Coaches will be recognized during halftime of the men's game. Following the men's game there will be an Alumni Day Reception in Memorial Hall from 5-7 p.m.
That's Why They're Free – Lewis is ranked eighth in Division II in free throw shooting at 80.1 percent. That mark is also best in the GLVC heading into this weekend's games. Hinders is sixth nationally in free throw shooting at 92.1 percent.
About Lindenwood – The Lions enter Thursday's contest with a record of 9-5 and are 5-3 in the GLVC after defeating Missouri-St. Louis 92-86 in overtime on Monday evening. Lindenwood brings a two-game winning streak into Thursday's contest. Bildner leads the Lions in scoring and rebounding with her 21.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per contest. Devin Fuhring is the top three-point shooter on the team making over 38 percent of her attempts.
Series vs. Lindenwood – This will be the first ever meeting between Lewis and Lindenwood.
About Missouri-St. Louis – The Tritons enter Thursday's game at Illinois Springfield with a mark of 7-10, 2-6 in the GLVC and have dropped four of their last five contests. UMSL went 1-2 last week dropping a 70-52 contest at Bellarmine last Thursday, defeating Indianapolis 81-71 this past Saturday and then lost in overtime at Lindenwood on Monday. Laura Szorenyi leads the team in scoring with nearly 12 points per game. Danielle Berry and Alex LaPorta are adding 10.7 and 10.2 points per contest respectively. LaPorta also leads the team in rebounding with 8.4 per outing.
Series vs. Missouri-St. Louis – Saturday's contest marks the 36th meeting all-time between Lewis and Missouri-St. Louis with the Flyers holding a 27-8 advantage in the series. Lewis has won 19 of the last 21 meetings in the series including an 84-61 decision at Neil Carey Arena a year ago.
