ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The sixth ranked Lewis men's volleyball team fell to third ranked Brigham Young University 3-1 (21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 16-25) on Saturday (Jan. 4) at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers fall to 1-1 on the season while the Cougars improve to 2-0.
Lewis was led by
Tyler Mitchem (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS), who recorded 13 kills and two blocks.
TJ Murray (Barrington, IL/Barrington HS) added 11 kills, Kyle Bugée had eight kills and four service aces and
Ryan Coenen (Franklin, WI/Franklin) finished with seven kills.
Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) added 38 assists and four digs.
Marty Jepsen (Chicago, Ill./Marist High School) recorded 20 serve receives and four digs.
The Flyers hit .186 (45 kills-23 errors-118 attacks) for the match, while BYU hit .276 (49-20-105) and had 12 blocks for the match to 5.5 from Lewis.
The Flyers head to California next weekend to take on eighth ranked UC Irvine next Thursday at 9 p.m. (CST) and at UC San Diego next Saturday at 9 p.m. (CST).
