ERIE, Pa. – Lewis men's lacrosse team fell to fourth ranked Mercyhurst 10-2 on Saturday morning in Erie, Pa. The Flyers fall to 1-1 while the Lakers improve to 2-0.
Lewis took an early lead as
Thomas Purfeerst (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) scored less than two minutes into the contest for his second goal of the season.
Mercyhurst tied the game with less than seven minutes to play in the opening quarter and then took the lead at the 2:35 mark of the stanza.
The Lakers extended their lead with three goals in the second period to take a 5-1 lead at halftime.
Mercyhurst added three goals in the span of five minutes early in the third quarter.
The Flyers got a goal 0:11 seconds into the final quarter as
Peter Carlson (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) scored his second goal of the season to cut the deficit to 8-2.
The Lakers got back-to-back goals from Benjamin Smith-Wilcox for the final margin.
Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) made 15 saves in goal for Lewis, Carlson picked up seven ground balls, won four face-offs and tied with
Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) and
Tyler Shively-Ablang (Las Vegas, Nev./Northwest Career and Technical School) with two caused turnovers.
The Flyers return to the field next Saturday as they travel to Montevallo, Ala., to open GLVC play against the Falcons beginning at 12 p.m.
