Late Rally Comes Up Short For Lewis Men’s Lacrosse

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Lewis' men's lacrosse team's fourth quarter rally came up short in an 11-9 loss at Montevallo on Saturday. The Flyers fall to 1-2, 0-1 GLVC while the Falcons improve to 3-1, 1-0 GLVC.

Lewis took the early lead scoring less than a minute into the contest on Nolan Dalep's (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) unassisted goal. The Falcons dominated the rest of the quarter scoring five unanswered goals.

UM extended its lead to 6-1 early in the second quarter but the Flyers responded with three straight goals to get within 6-4 with less than two minutes to play in the first half. The Falcons scored in the final 0:30 to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

Lewis scored the opening goal of the third quarter to cut the Falcon lead back to two but Montevallo scored the next three to match its largest lead of the contest.

Drew Kask (Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) brought the Flyers to within four as he scored in the final minute of the quarter.

Lewis scored a goal down a man 3:06 into the final quarter to cut the lead to 10-7 on Karl Flinter's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) unassisted goal.

The Falcons answered 0:32 later to regain its four-goal lead. The Flyers got goals from Kask and Thomas Purfeersst in the span of 2:27 to get cut the deficit to two halfway through the final quarter.

Neither side scored over the final seven minutes of the contest.

Kask, Flinter and Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School) had two goals each for Lewis. Peter Carlson (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) was 15-of-23 in the face-off circle and picked up 12 ground balls. Tyler Shively-Ablang (Las Vegas, Nev./Northwest Career and Technical School) and Drew Dingle (Verona, Wis./Verona) had one caused turnover each. Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) stopped 16 of 27 shots.

The Flyers are back at home on Wednesday taking on Lindenwood at 4 p.m.
