Lewis Women’s Lacrosse Drops 13-12 Decision To Montevallo

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Lewis' women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-12 decision to Montevallo (Ala.) on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park, in Huntsville, Ala. The Flyers fall to 0-2 on the season while the Falcons improve to 1-2.

UM got on the board first but Lewis responded with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. The Falcons came back to tie the score at five but the Flyers responded to regain the lead at 6-5. Montevallo would score the final two goals of the first half to take a 7-6 lead at halftime.

Lewis scored the first four goals of the second half to match its largest lead of the game at 10-7. The Falcons scored back-to-back goals to cut the Flyer lead to 10-9 with less than 18 minutes to play.

Lewis extended its lead to 11-9 but UM scored four straight goals to grab a 13-11 lead. The Flyers got a goal in the final minute to cut the margin to one but were unable to get the equalizer.

Alyson Jines (Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley High School) and Sarah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) led Lewis with three goals apiece while Skylar Lucich (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) and Jamie Rieger (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) had two goals each. Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard High School) won four draw controls, caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Rieger, Paige Bracey (Apex, N.C./Apex) and Alyssa Davidson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) caused two turnovers each. Rieger and Claire Moran (Plainfield, ILL./Benet Academy) also had three ground balls apiece.

Brigid Fornek (Lawrenceville, Ga./Grayson) made 10 saves in goal.

The Flyers return to action on Friday (Feb. 21) as they travel to Marquette, Mich., to take on Northern Michigan at 6 p.m. (CST).
