ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lewis' women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale at Lindenwood 86-74 on Saturday afternoon at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The Flyers finish the regular season 17-11, 14-6 GLVC while the Lions improve to 18-8, 14-6 GLVC.
Lewis led by as many as four in the opening quarter but Lindenwood closed the quarter on a 12-6 run over the final four minutes to take a 21-19 lead at the quarter break.
The Flyers scored five points in the span of 61 seconds to take a 24-23 lead on a layup by
Katie Gardner (Franklin, Wis./Pius XI). However, the Lions went on a 17-1 run over the next five minutes to take their largest lead of the game at 40-25 with 3:07 left in the quarter. Lewis ran off seven straight points to cut the deficit to eight with 1:30 left in the half but two free throws in the final 0:10 of the stanza gave Lindenwood a 10-point lead at the intermission.
The Flyers cut the deficit to five points three different times in the third quarter but were never able to get closer than that as the Lions won the quarter 17-16 to take an 11-point lead into the final stanza.
Lewis trailed anywhere between 8 to 12 points during most of the fourth quarter but made a late push to cut the deficit to 76-71 with 1:03 remaining. Lindenwood hit all eight of its free throw attempts in the final 60 seconds and got a layup from Megan Foster on the break to seal the victory.
The Flyers shot over 48 percent (32-for-66) from the field in the contest but was 4-of-18 from three and shot only 55 percent at the foul line.
Carly Graverson (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led four Lewis players in double figures in scoring with 17 points.
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) and
Dajae Black (Chicago, Ill./Marist) had 14 points apiece while
Morgan Glatczak (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) finished with 10 points. Glatczak also added nine rebounds and five blocked shots.
The Lions finished the game shooting 45 percent (27-for-60) from the floor, was 10-of-26 from three and shot 85 percent at the foul line. Kallie Bildner finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds while Devin Fuhring added 23 points and Lindsay Medlen had 14 points.
The Flyers earned the three seed in next week's GLVC Tournament and will take on sixth seeded Indianapolis on Friday at 12 p.m. at First Community Arena at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Ill.
