ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's soccer team fell to Quincy 1-0 Sunday (Oct. 10) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers dropped to 5-3-2 overall on the year, 3-3-2 in the GLVC, while Quincy moved to 4-7 overall, 3-6 in the GLVC.
The Flyers had some chances early in the contest as they had a corner kick at the 9:28 mark of the first half and had a pair of shots on goal in the next two minutes by
Anna Stearns (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) and
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South).Â
Quincy had a goal taken off the board in the first half for an offsides call, leading to a scoreless half.
In the second half the Hawks hit the crossbar twice, but were able to score the game's lone goal in the 73rd minute as a hand ball in the box led to a penalty kick, which was converted by Lauren Crane.
The Hawks outshot the Flyers 10-5 for the game, while the Flyers held a 3-2 shot on goal advantage. Quincy held a 4-3 corner kick advantage and committed 27 fouls to 11 for Lewis.
Lewis returns to play Friday (Oct. 15) when it travels to play Rockhurst at 5 p.m.
