ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team picked up its second straight win Sunday (Oct. 10), defeating Quincy 2-0 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers move to 6-3-2 overall, 4-3-1 in the GLVC, while the Hawks fall to 4-6-2 overall, 2-5-2 in the GLVC.
The Flyers jumped ahead early with a goal in the 11th minute of the contest as
Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) scored on a cross from
Nathaniel Campbell (Palm Bay, Fla./Heritage) that was deflected in the box.
Lewis continued its attack with several shots, including a shot on goal from
Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy)Â before it found the back of the net again in the 39th minute asÂ
Arturs Gorodnickis (Riga, Latvia/Riga)Â found the back of the net on a header off of a free kick from Beaulieu.
For the half the Flyers outshot the Hawks 7-2. In the second half both teams totaled three shots as neither team found the back of the net. For the game the Flyers had a 4-3 shots on goal advantage. Quincy tallied eight corner kicks to five from Lewis.
Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan),
Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) and Oluwatuyi each had two shots for the Flyers, while
Sebastian Doppelhofer (Liebmannweg, Austria/Kapfenburg) made three saves in goal for the shutout.
The Flyers are back in action Friday when they travel to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m.
