Lewis Women’s Swimming Falls At IUPUI On Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University's women's swimming dropped its dual meet at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis 179-78 on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Flyers drop to 0-2 while the Jags improve to 1-1.

Kiara Barnes (Cape Town, South Africa/) picked up an event win for Lewis winning the 1000 free in a time of 11:07.10 while Alessa Locke finished third in the event at 13:27.05.

Larissa Alves (Panama/) finished second in the 100 back with a time of 59.14 while Julia Lesnicki (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) was fourth at 1:05.77 and Maddy Wagner (Hickman, Neb./Norris) and Marie Grzybek (Inverness, Ill./William Fremd) were sixth and seventh at 1:08.59 and 1:11.64 respectively.

Erin Bachmeier (/) tok second in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:07.69 while Melanie Patterson (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley), Cetta Senese (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) and Orla Clasby (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) finished fourth, sixth and seventh respectively with times of 1:10.76, 1:12.62 and 1:13.47. Bachmeier also had a third-place performance in the 100 free at 55.56 seconds while Fischer was sixth, Marsh was seventh and Varanauskaite took eighth.

Aubrey Fischer (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) was third in the 200 fly with a time of 2:23.03 and was followed by Megan O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Daniela Navarrete (Panama City, Panama/) in fourth and fifth in times of 2:28.18 and 2:31.56 respectively.

Madi Heckman (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence), Meghan Bandy (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon) and Benita Varanauskaite (/) were fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in the 50 free and Heckman, Varanauskaite, Bandy and Marsh were fifth through eighth in the 200 free.

Lewis finished third through fifth in the 200 breast with Senese taking third at 2:36.79 while Patterson was fourth at 2:40.17 and Clasby took fifth at 2:40.45.

Barnes, Grzybek and Bandy finished third through fifth in the 500 free with times of 5:32.72, 5:48.59 and 5:50.26 respectively.

Fischer, Navarrete and O'Brien finished fifth through seventh in the 100 fly.

Cenese took fourth in the 200 individual medley at 2:23.37 while Clasby was sixth at 2:26.59 and Patterson finished seventh at 2:30.60.

The Flyer 200 free relay team of Alves, Marsh, Heckman and Bachmeier finished with a time of 1:43.57 while the quartet of Bandy, Fischer, Lesnicki and Navarrete finished at 1:47.28 and the squad of Barnes, Grzybek, O'Brien and Lynsay Humpage (LaSalle, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) came in at 1:49.79.

Lewis' 200 medley relay team of Alves, Bachmeier, Senese and Heckman was third at 1:51.46 while the teams of Lesnicki, Patterson, Navarrete and Marsh were fifth at 1:56.40 and the team of Wagner, Clasby, O'Brien and Varanauskaite were sixth at 2:01.60.

The Flyers are back in action next Saturday as it travels to Allendale, Mich., to take on Grand Valley State at 12 p.m. (CDT).
