Flyers Defeat Missouri S&T 3-0 To Clinch Home Playoff Contest

ROLLA, Mo. – Lewis University's men's soccer team clinched a home playoff game in the GLVC Tournament defeating Missouri S&T 3-0 in it its regular season finale on Sunday afternoon at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in Rolla, Mo. The Flyers finish the regular season with a record of 11-3-3, 9-3-2 GLVC and will be the four seed in the GLVC Tournament and will host fifth seeded Drury at 1 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.

Lewis dominated the opening half outshooting the Miners (6-8-2, 5-7-2) 11-1 and had eight corner kicks to zero for S&T.

The Flyers got on the board in the 14th minute as Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy) pounced on a rebound off a missed shot from Matt Budreck (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) to score his third goal of the weekend, his fourth in his last four games and sixth of the season.

Lewis added to its lead about 10 minutes later when Dimitri Huitron (Aurora, Ill./Oswego East) slipped a pass through the defense to Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) who scored from the top of the penalty area for his fourth goal of the season. Mwanga added a second goal seven minutes later with an assist from Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) for his fifth of the year.

The Flyers outshot the Miners 6-4 in the second half to finish the contest with 17-5 advantage in shots, 6-1 in shots on goal and also had a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Mwanga led Lewis with four shots in the contest while Oluwatuyi, Godwin Asore (Kumasi, Ghana/Putnam Science Academy), Cristian Perez (Cicero, Ill./Morton East), Sebastian Arguello (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) and Ayden Henegar (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) had two shots apiece. Sebastian Doppelhofer (Liebmannweg, Austria/Kapfenburg) stopped the only shot he faced in the contest.

Lewis' game with Drury next Sunday will be a rematch of the scoreless double overtime draw between the teams on Friday (Oct. 22) at Lewis Stadium.
