ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men's soccer team defeated Truman State 1-0 Friday (Oct. 8) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Lewis Stadium. The win snapped a four match winless streak for the Flyers (5-3-2 overall, 3-3-1 in the GLVC), while Truman remained winless at 0-10 overall, 0-8 in the GLVC.
The lone goal of the game was scored in the 18
th minute as
Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) found the back of the net for the fifth time on the year off of assists from
Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) and
Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy).
Both teams had split opportunities the rest of the half with no goals scored. The Flyers had a chance early in the second half on a shot by Oluwatuyi that was a team save by the Bulldogs, leading to a corner kick for the Flyers.
The last good chance for Truman came in the 87
th minute but a shot on goal was turned away by
Sebastian Doppelhofer (Liebmannweg, Austria/Kapfenburg) and the ensuing corner kick did not mount a shot.
Lewis outshot Truman 9-8 in the contest with the Bulldogs leading the way with a 7-5 shots on goal advantage. Truman also held a 5-3 corner kick advantage.
Mwanga tallied three shots for the Flyers, while Oluwatuyi had two shots, with both being on goal. Doppelhofer earned the shutout in goal with seven saves.
The Flyers are back in action Sunday when they host Quincy at 2:30 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
