ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's soccer team fell to Truman State 1-0 Friday (Oct. 8) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers drop to 5-2-2 overall on the year, 3-2-2 in the GLVC, while Truman moves to 5-3-2 overall, 4-2-2 in the GLVC.
Lewis came out strong as
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) recorded a shot on goal 35 seconds into the match, but it was turned away. The Flyers would add a corner kick in the 15th minutes and a shot in the 16th minute by
Miranda Nirchi (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), but could not connect on either opportunity.Â
Late in the period the Bulldogs were able to connect on their lone shot on goal as Johanna Wallstab found the back of the net in the 44th minute to take the 1-0 advantage.
Lewis had a couple more opportunities in the final 10 minutes of the game, but shots on goal by
Elisa Aguilar (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) and
Cameron Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) were both saved by goalie Beth Hopwood.
The Flyers held a 5-4 shot advantage and had all four shots on goal in the game. They had two corner kicks in the contest to one for Truman.
Lewis is back on the pitch Sunday at noon when it plays host to Quincy.
