Lewis Women’s Hoops Hosts Bulldogs, Eagles To Open Home Slate

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team hosts Ferris State in its home opener this Wednesday (Nov. 17) at 5 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The home stand continues on Saturday (Nov. 20) as the Flyers welcome eighth ranked Ashland to Neil Carey Arena for a 1 p.m. contest.

Last Time Out – Lewis battled last weekend but came up short in its first two games of the season against Michigan Tech 75-71 and Northern Michigan 61-56 last weekend at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Mich. Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led the Flyers in scoring averaging 18.5 points per game while Jenna Badali (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) added 14 points per outing and Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) contributed 12.5 points per contest. Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) led the team in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game.

About Ferris State – The Bulldogs opened their 2021-22 season splitting its two games at the GLIAC/GMAC Crossover Tournament at Wayne State. FSU dropped its season opener to Walsh 80-64 last Saturday but rebounded to knock off Lake Erie 78-49 on Sunday afternoon. Kadyn Blanchard and Chloe Idoni led the Bulldogs with 17 points per game apiece while Adrienne Anderson and Mallory McCartney added 8.5 and 7.0 points per outing respectively.

About Ashland – The Eagles opened their season with wins over Lindenwood, 88-53 last Friday and then defeated Indianapolis on Saturday 59-45 at Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio. Annie Roshak led the way for Ashland averaging 24.5 points per contest while Macy Spielman and Hallie Heidemann contributed 12.5 and 11.5 points per game respectively. Heidemann was also the leading rebounder for the Eagles averaging six boards in the two contests.

Series Stuff – Wednesday's contest marks the 18th meeting all-time between Lewis and Ferris State with the Flyers holding a 9-8 advantage which includes a 5-3 record at Neil Carey Arena. The Bulldogs won the last meeting between the two schools 88-69 on Dec. 1, 2019.

Lewis and Ashland meet for the 11th time on Saturday with each side having won five contests. The Eagles have won four of the last six contests including a 96-57 victory two seasons ago at Ashland. The Flyers are 3-1 all-time against the Eagles at Neil Carey Arena.

Up Next – Lewis continues its five-game homestand next Tuesday (Nov. 23) at 5 p.m. against Purdue Northwest.
