Two Goals In 86 Seconds Propel Flyers To NCAA Tournament Win Over Panthers

MENTOR, Oh. - The No. 7 seed Lewis University men's soccer team picked up its first NCAA Tournament win since 2013 with a 2-0 win over No. 10 seed Davenport Thursday (Nov. 18) in a NCAA Division II first round game at Mentor High School. The Flyers advance to take on No. 2 seed Lake Erie Saturday at 5 p.m. (CST).

The Flyers (12-4-3) scored two goals in the span of 1:26 of the first half to take control of the game. Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) got the Flyers on the board first with a goal at the 17:42 mark of the first half on a breakaway.

Lewis then scored at the 19:08 mark as Matt Budreck (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) headed home a corner kick from the top of the penalty area off the keeper's hand and under the bar to make it 2-0.

The Flyers continued to attack after the second goal as Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) had a shot on goal that was saved at the 24:19 mark. Aris Oluwatuyi (Lagos, Nigeria/The International Sports Academy) tallied two shots and the Flyers had three more corner kicks the remainder of the half.

Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) came out firing right away in the second half with a pair of shots in the first four minutes of the second half. Later in the half he added a third shot that went wide.

The Flyers tallied 18 shots for the game with eight shots on goal and five corner kicks, while Davenport (11-8-1) totaled six shots, none on goal with five corners.
