ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's basketball continues its five-game homestand on Monday (Dec. 20) as it hosts No. 6/16 Ferris State in an afternoon matinee at 4 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers (3-5) enter Monday's contest riding a three-game winning streak while the Bulldogs have won five straight.
Lewis extended its winning streak to three on Thursday evening with a complete performance in its 82-45 win over crosstown rival St. Francis. The Flyers allowed a season-low 45 points in the contest while shooting a season-high 63.5 percent from the field including hitting 9-of-16 shots from beyond the arc.
Connor Niego (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) finished with a game-high 20 points while
Atakan Sahinkaya (Istanbul, Turkey/Perkiomen School) added 11 points and
Bruno Williams (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Beau Frericks (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) finished with 10 points apiece.
During its three-game winning streak the Flyers are averaging 81.7 points per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 56.6 percent from three while holding its opponents to under 60 points at 59.3 points per contest.
Niego and Williams have paced the offense during the past three games averaging 19.7 and 16.7 points per game respectively while Frericks and Sahinkaya are contributing 9.7 and 9.0 points per contest respectively.
The Bulldogs enter Monday's contest with a record of 9-1 and are 4-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They won both of their contests last weekend defeating both Northern Michigan 76-63 and Michigan Tech 71-48 on the road.
Ferris State is averaging 89.5 points per game while shooting nearly 53 percent from the floor and are averaging 10.3 three-point field goals made per contest. The Bulldogs have three players averaging double figures in scoring this season led by Walt Kelser at 21.3 points per game while Ben Davidson is contributing 14.3 points per contest off the bench and Dorian Aluyi is at 12.8 points per outing. Aluyi also leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game. Jimmy Scholler leads the team in assists and steals with 5.8 and 1.5 per contest respectively.
Monday's contest is the 22nd meeting all-time between Lewis and Ferris State with the Flyers leading 13-8 and have won the last two meetings including a 79-77 win at Ferris State on Nov. 23, 2019.
