ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team concludes its pre-Christmas schedule hosting No. 18 Grand Valley State on Monday (Dec. 20) at 2 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers (3-6) bring a two-game winning into Monday's contest against the Lakers (8-1) while GVSU has won three straight heading into's Friday (Dec. 17) against Aquinas College (Mich.).
In its last game Lewis knocked off crosstown rival St. Francis 68-61 getting 26 points and 10 rebounds from
Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) while
Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) added 21 points and
Amelia Motz (Canton, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) and
Lily Courier (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) finished with eight points apiece.
The Flyers have four players averaging double figures in scoring this season led by Schmidt with 15.7 per contest while Hilber is adding 15.4 per game, Courier is dropping in 13.2 per outing and
Jenna Badali (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) is contributing 11.3 ppg. Schmidt also leads the team in rebounding with 6.9 per contest while
Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) is pulling down 5.0 rebounds per game.
The Lakers are averaging 66.4 points per game while allowing just 47.2 per contest. They're shooting 42 percent (214-for-510) from the field including 33 percent from beyond the arc and are averaging 6.6 three-point field goals made per game. GVSU is outrebounding its opponents by nearly 10 rebounds per game.
Emily Spitzley leads the team in scoring at 13.3 points per contest while Rylie Bisballe is adding 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Ellie Droste and Hannah Kulas are each averaging 9.7 points per outing. Qay Stanton has a team-high 29 assists and 10 steals.
Monday's contest marks the 24th meeting all-time between Lewis and Grand Valley State with the Lakers holding a 14-9 advantage in the series and they've won nine of the last 11 meetings in the series.
