ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's basketball team shoots for its second straight win as it travels to take on crosstown rival St. Francis on Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the Pat Sullivan Center in Joliet, Ill.
Last Time Out – The Flyers (2-6) snapped a two-game skid on Saturday with a 69-50 win at McKendree. Lewis got going in the second quarter shooting 75 percent (12-for-16) from the floor as they outscored the Bearcats 25-10 to take a 12-point lead into the locker room at halftime. The Flyers shot 40 percent (30-for-75) from the field in the contest and outrebounded McKendree 41-29.
Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) led all scorers with 17 points.
Balanced Attack – Lewis has four players averaging double figures through eight games led by Hilber with 14.8 points per contest. She is joined in double figures by
Lily Courier (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) with 14.5 points per outing while
Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) is adding 14.4 points per game and
Jenna Badali (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) is contributing 11.3 ppg. Hilber is 10th in the GLVC in scoring while Schmidt is 12th and Badali is 24th. Courier has not played in enough contests to qualify.
STOP, Thief! – The Flyers have three players with at least 10 steals this season. Hilber leads the way with 14 while Badali has added 13 and
Amelia Motz (Canton, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) has 10 swipes. Lewis is averaging 8.5 steals per game so far this season.
About St. Francis – The Saints enter Tuesday night's game with a record of 9-3 and are 6-1 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). USF bounced back from a 57-53 loss at Indiana Northwest last Wednesday with a 45-point victory over Lincoln College last Saturday at the Sullivan Center.
The Saints are led in scoring by Andriana Acosta at 15.2 points per game while Jordan Pyle and Justene Charlesworth are contributing 13.3 and 11.5 points per outing. Acosta also leads the team in rebounding at 10.6 per game. Kalyn Sias-Chaney is averaging 3.5 assists per game to lead the squad.
Series History – Tuesday's contest marks the 25th meeting all-time between the Flyers and Saints with Lewis leading the series 19-5. The Flyers have won two straight in the series including a 70-43 win over USF on Dec. 31, 2018 at Neil Carey Arena.
