ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's second ranked women's volleyball team announced a change to its Spring 2021 schedule on Thursday (Feb. 18). The Flyers were originally scheduled to host a triangular match with Southwest Baptist and Missouri-St. Louis beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 20) but that is now a single match between Lewis and No. 7 Missouri-St. Louis beginning at 12 p.m.
The Flyers match against Southwest Baptist and the Bearcats match with the Tritons has been postponed due to COVID within the SBU women's volleyball program. The match with Southwest Baptist will looked to be made up at a later date.
Saturday's match against Missouri-St. Louis will be a top 10 showdown between the top teams from the GLVC East and the GLVC Central. Lewis enters Saturday's match with a record of 4-0, 4-0 GLVC while the Tritons are 3-0, 3-0 GLVC.
The Flyers stayed unbeaten with a five-set win at Illinois Springfield last Friday.
Caroline Stefanon (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) led Lewis with a career-high 18 kills in the victory while
Jamie Poppen (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) had a season-high 28 digs.
UMSL hasn't played since sweeping Quincy 3-0 on Feb. 6. The Tritons were scheduled to play at Truman State last Saturday, but that match was postponed.
The Tritons are led offensively by Charlotte Richards who is averaging 4.78 kills per set and Olivia Klank with 2.78 kills per set. Kaileen Herman runs the UMSL offense and is distributing 11.33 assists per set. Defensively, Karli Dean leads the team in blocks with an average of 0.89 blocks per set and Megan Woll is averaging 5.67 digs per set.
Saturday's contest is the 38th meeting all-time between the two schools with the Flyers holding a 30-7 advantage in the series. The teams split the two meetings last season with Lewis defeating the Tritons in straight sets while UMSL won the rematch 3-1 in the semifinal round of the GLVC Tournament.
