Lewis Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Carroll 16-6 For First Win Of 2021

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's lacrosse team defeated Carroll University 16-6 for its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers even their record at 1-1 while the Pioneers fall to 0-1.

Skylar Lucich (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) and Emily Meredith (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored three goals each in the first half for the Flyers while Alyssa Davidson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) added two more to give Lewis an 8-2 lead at halftime.

Carroll scored three straight goals in the first six minutes of the second half to cut the Flyer lead in half after Courtenay Karls second goal of the half.

Lewis ran off four straight goals getting two more from Meredith and one from Sydney Able (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) and Paige Zahler (Verona, Wis./Verona) to extend its lead to 12-5 with 12:32 to play.

The Pioneers got another goal from Karl to cut the deficit to 12-6 but the Flyers sealed the game with four goals in the final six minutes to secure the victory. Davidson, Able, Paige Bracey (Apex, N.C./Apex) and Zahler each had a goal.

Lewis outshot Carroll 30-23 in the contest and put 29 of them on goal. It won 18 draw controls and scooped up 24 ground balls.

Meredith led the Flyers with five goals in the contest while Davidson and Lucich added three goals apiece and Able and Zahler had two goals each. Brigid Fornek (Lawrenceville, Ga./Grayson) got the win in goal making seven saves and picked up six ground balls.

Karls led the Pioneers with three goals while Michaela Johnson added two more. Rebecca McDaniel made 13 saves in goal and scooped up eight ground balls.

Lewis is back in action on Saturday (March 13) when it takes on Alabama-Huntsville in Cleveland, Tenn., at 1 p.m. (CT).
