CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Lindsey Traub (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard High School) and
Paige Zahler (Verona, Wis./Verona) scored two goals apiece, but Lewis University's women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-7 contest to Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday afternoon at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. The Flyers fall to 1-2 on the season while the Chargers move to 5-2.
UAH scored five times in the first 30 minutes as Hailey Gallant and Katie Gerber scored two goals apiece.
Cara Brown added her second goal of the contest 1:11 into the second half to extend the Charger lead to 6-0.
Lewis responded with four straight goals in a five-minute span to cut Huntsville's lead to 6-4.
Skylar Lucich (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) got the Flyers on the board with her fourth goal of the season and
Emily Meredith (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) followed less than two minutes later with her sixth of the season. Traub scored her first of the season at the 22:19 mark of the second half and then
Alyson Jines (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley High School) scored 1:23 later for her first of the season.
Katie Williams put the Chargers back in front by three with an assist from Gerber 0:26 after Jines' goal. Zahler scored her first of the afternoon and sixth of the season 1:17 after Williams' goal with an assist from Jines to make the score 7-5.
UAH scored the next six goals to extend its lead to 13-5 as Brown had three goals while Gallant, Karissa Glover and Isadora Springer had a goal apiece.
Traub scored again with less than 10 minutes remaining for her second of the season and then Zahler scored with 3:59 to play for her team leading seventh goal of the season.
Lewis was outshot in the contest 31-28 and 23-14 in shots on goal. The Flyers scooped up 26 ground balls and were 15-of-21 in clear attempts.
Jamie Rieger (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) caused three turnovers,
Brigid Fornek (Lawrenceville, Ga./Grayson) made seven saves and picked up seven ground balls while
Meltonique Bowen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan) won five draw controls.
The Flyers are back in action on Sunday as they take on Lee University at 1 p.m. (CDT).
