Lebanon, Ill. Lewis University women's soccer team suffered their first defeat of this season at McKendree on Sunday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) match at Leeman Field. The Flyers fall to 0-1-1 while the Bearcats improve to 2-1-0, both teams in the GLVC.

McKendree dominated the first 45-minutes of play outshooting Lewis 12-1. Four of the 12 shots were on goal, three were saved by
Emily Villasenor (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) but a shot by Alynnah O'Leary slipped through in the 30th minute.

The Bearcats tacked on an insurance goal by Liz Goldstein in the 71st minute and then five minutes later Destiny Johnson tapped it in after the initial shot was deflected.

Abby Gustafson (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) had a chance to put the Flyers on the board, but her attempt went straight into the hands of Mercedes King. With two minutes left to play, Gustafson attempted another shot from the penalty area but was unsuccessful.

McKendree finished the match with an 18-6 shot advantage and a corner kick advantage of 9-0.

The Flyers play their first match at home on Friday, March 5 against Southern Indiana at 3 p.m.
