ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's soccer team fell to Southern Indiana 2-0 Friday (March 5) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers fall to 0-2-1 overall and in the GLVC, while the Screaming Eagles move to 1-1 overall and in the GLVC.
The Flyers controlled the advantage for the majority of the first half, leading in shots (4-1) and shots on goal (2-0), while the Eagles held a 2-1 corner kick advantage. Cali Havelka-Vanderplow (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) twice got shots on goal, but both were turned away by goalie Maya Etienne, the first in the 14th minute and the second in the 21st minute, to keep the game scoreless.
However, the momentum changed in the second half and all three shots on goal were registered by Southern Indiana and it broke the tie in the 57th minute on a goal from Madison Cady.
The Eagles added to the lead in the 74th minute on a goal from Jill DiTusa. They outshot the Flyers in the second half 4-3 and held a 4-3 corner kick edge. For the game Lewis held a 7-5 shot advantage. Havelka-Vanderplow registered three shots and had both shots on goal for the Flyers.
Lewis is back at home Sunday (March 7) when it hosts Indianapolis at 12 p.m.
