ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 contest to Chicago State on Thursday morning at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill. The Flyers are now 2-3 on the year while the Cougars are 2-6.
Chicago State opened the dual winning two of the three doubles matches to take the first point of the contest. Jesus Perez and Max Sandoval beat
Jonathan Maghirang (Woodridge, Ill./) and
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to open the competition.
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) evened things up with a win at No. 1 doubles over Pedja Kolaric and Jakub Zamorski 6-3. The Cougars won at No. 2 doubles as Pedro Alvarez and Javier Sanchez beat
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) 7-6 (7-5) in a tiebreak.
Ramirez Mejia picked up Lewis' first point of the day defeating Sanchez 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles it was Perez defeating Lusti 6-4, 6-4. Ambrozic knocked off Zamorski 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 3 singles to tie the match at two. Alvarez put CSU back in front defeating Sowa at No. 5 singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 and Sandoval defeated Maghirang 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to clinch the match. Trifunovic closed out the match defeating Kolaric 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
The Flyers are back in action on Saturday evening hosting Ferris State at 5:15 p.m. at Five Star Tennis Center.
