ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team picked up its second straight defeating Chicago State, 5-2 on Thursday morning at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill. The Flyers improve to 3-1 on the season while the Cougars drop to 1-6.
Lewis won all three doubles matches to secure the first point of the contest.
Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Garcia de Orta) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) defeated Kristina Pukhaeva and Katarina Drazic 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles action it was
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) defeating Sofiya Sedovich and Susana Andres 6-2.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Agnes Florczyk (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) won be default at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action the Flyers won four of the next six matches. Pedroso opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Pukaeva at No. 1 singles. Chicago State cut Lewis' lead to 2-1 as Drazic beat Reisch 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Smith rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) win over Sedovich at No. 2 singles. Vujanic rallied at No. 4 singles to defeat Katarina Dukic in three sets 3-6, 6-0 and 6-4 to win the match. Andres picked up the win at No. 5 singles defeating
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) 6-4, 6-1. Davis on by default at No. 6 singles.
The Flyers are back in action on Saturday evening hosting Ferris State at 5:15 p.m. at Five Star Tennis Center.
