ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory over Wheaton on Thursday afternoon at the Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, Ill. The Flyers improve to 4-2 on the season while the Thunder drop to 1-2.
Lewis won all three doubles matches to take the early 3-0 lead in the dual. The Flyers tandem of
Agnes Florczyk (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) picked up the first point of the match defeating Bethany Hoogerheide and Caroline Park 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. Lewis' No. 1 doubles team of
Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Garcia de Orta) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) knocked off Emme Lindquist and Abygale Ahn 8-2 and the team of
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) beat Claire Dibble and Mary Streller 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Pedroso defeated Lindquist in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to open singles play. Reisch followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Dibble at No. 3 singles, Smith extended the lead to 6-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ahn at No. 2 doubles. Sueflohn knocked off Streller in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 10-2 at No. 4 singles and Davis defeated Hoogerheide 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Park defeated Florczyk 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
The Flyers return to the courts next Thursday as they travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., to take on Olivet Nazarene at noon at 3:30 p.m. at the Snowbarger Athletic Complex.
