BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Lewis University women's tennis team defeated Olivet Nazarene, 4-3 on Monday afternoon at the Snowbarger Athletic Complex in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Flyers move to 5-2 on the season while the Tigers are 2-7.
ONU won the opening point of the match winning two of the three doubles contests.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) defeated Nirva Patel and Coco Ruggiero 6-1 at No. 2 doubles to open the contest but
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) fell to Nrjis Mzibri and Heidi Moyo 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Lewis defaulted at No. 3 doubles to Mia Schwada and Audrey Zoeteman allowing the Tigers to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Lewis won the first four singles matches as Vujanic defeated Ruggiero 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to even the contest at 1-1. Reisch gave the Flyers the lead as she beat Zoeteman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Sueflohn followed with 6-0, 6-0 win over Schwada at No. 4 singles and Markun beat Abigail Wakeley 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Smith fell to Mzibri 6-2, 1-6, 1-10 at No. 1 singles. Lewis defaulted at No. 6 singles.
The Flyers return the courts on Saturday (April 3) as they host the University of Indianapolis in the conference opener for both teams at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex at 2:30 p.m.
