ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team came up short in a 15-11 loss at No. 14 Maryville on Saturday afternoon the Maryville Lacrosse Field in St. Louis, Mo. The Flyers fall to 2-4 overall and in the GLVC while the Saints move to 5-0 overall and in the conference.
Maryville raced out to an early 4-0 lead with three of those goals coming in the span of 1:09. Lewis got on the board late in the quarter as
Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) scored with an assist from
Micah Daigle (Erie, Pa./McDowell).
Daigle scored early in the second quarter to cut the Saint lead in half but back-to-back goals from Parker Lee and Cooper George gave Maryville a 6-2 lead with 9:21 to play in the second quarter.
Thomas Purfeerst (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) scored a goal on the man advantage to make the score 6-3.
The two sides swapped goals over the final five minutes of the half as the Saints went into halftime with an 8-5 lead.
The Flyers cut the deficit to 10-8 with less than 10 minutes to play in the third quarter but Maryville scored the final three goals of the quarter to extend its lead to 13-8 heading into the final 15 minutes.
The Saints scored twice to begin the fourth quarter to take its largest lead of the game at 15-8 on a goal from Jake Socia with 7:20 to go. Lewis scored three times in the final 6:46 to cut the deficit to four.
Purfeerst and Dalep led the Flyers with three goals apiece in the contest while
Jack Stone (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) added two goals.
Peter Carlson (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South) won 19 of 28 face-offs and scooped up nine ground balls in the contest.
Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) made 13 saves in goal.
Lewis returns home next Saturday taking on No. 15 Indianapolis at 1 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
