Late Goal Lifts Flyers Past Truman State

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Lewis' men's soccer team notched its second win of the season defeating Truman State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Soccer Park. The Flyers improve to 2-4-1 while the Bulldogs drop to 1-6-1.

Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) scored the opening goal to the upper left corner of the goal, two minutes in the match, with an assist from Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan)

Lewis attempted to add to its lead as they took more shots over the Bulldogs, 7-2, with five on target but the succeeding attempts were unsuccessful.

The Bulldogs had a chance at the equalizer before the half, but Thomas Weber was turned away by Will Maurice (Minooka, Ill./Minooka).

In the 53rd minute, Andrew Brennan converted on a penalty kick to even the score. Seven minutes later, Sam Newton attempted to put the Bulldogs ahead, but the shot sailed over the crossbar.

Late in the match, Sebastian Arguello (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) scored the game-winning goal for the Flyers as he shot it into the top right corner, following a pass from Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler).

Lewis outshot Truman State, 11-7 for the contest and 7-2 in shots on goal. The Bulldogs were whistled for 18 fouls compared to 10 for the Flyers and received three yellow cards in the match.

The Flyers return to Lewis Stadium on Friday, March 26 hosting William Jewell at 5:30 p.m.
