ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Lewis University men's soccer team defeated William Jewell 3-1, on Friday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers move to 3-4-1 while the Cardinals drop to 2-6-1.
The Flyers were quick to start the match as
Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) converted on a penalty kick to put them in the 13th minute after
Jimmy Mwanga (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) was taken down in the box.
Looking to double up on William Jewell,
Seth Dilworth (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) attempted a shot, but it was turned away. Midway through the first 45 minutes the Cardinals tried to even up the score, but the attempt went wide to the left.
The Flyers outshot William Jewell in the half, 7-1, with four shots on target. Both teams were aggressive on the defense and were given eight fouls each.
In the 59th minute,
Noah Wolff (Stockholm, Sweden/IFK Lidingö) scored his first collegiate goal with an assist from Baumann. A few minutes later
Sebastian Arguello (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) tried to extend the lead but went wide right.
Lewis continued to stay aggressive on the offense and tacked on an insurance goal in he 75th minute. Baumann's shot was saved by the keeper, but the rebound went o Arguello who hammered it into the net.
With two minutes remaining in the game, Trey Berman denied the Flyers shutout after scoring with assists from Bennett Williams and Chris Lee.
The Flyers outshot the Cardinals 15-2 in the contest and put eight of those on goal compared to one for William Jewell.
Lewis returns to the pitch on Sunday, March 28 hosting Rockhurst at 2:30 p.m.
