Late Goal Lifts Flyers To Third Straight Win

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Lewis University men's soccer team notched their third straight win defeating Rockhurst, 1-0, at Lewis Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Flyers improve their record to 4-4-1 while the Hawks drop to 1-6-3.

Lewis was aggressive to start the match, looking to get on the board early attempting a shot in the first minute of play but it missed wide. Rockhurst responded on a counterattack but failed to convert.

In the 23rd minute, Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler) almost put the Flyers on the board on a free kick near the box, but it sailed over the crossbar.

Rockhurst had a chance to take the lead late in the half but the Lewis' defense held its ground to keep them scoreless.

Entering the second half, Lewis had back-to-back attempts to score but the first attempt went wide, and the second attempt was saved by Fabio D'Errico.

In the 79th minute, Tomasso Tirabassi took his chance but his attempt sailed over the crossbar. The Flyers answered on a counterattack, but their attempt also went over the crossbar.

With less than four minutes remaining, Sebastian Arguello (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) sent a pass through traffic in the penalty area and found Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) who put it into the bottom right corner of the goal for his second of the season.

The Flyers outshot the Hawks, 10-9, with three shots being on target. Each team received a yellow card in the contest and the Hawks had more fouls, 10-9.

Lewis is on the road next Thursday (April 1) as it travels to Bolivar, Mo., to take on Southwest Baptist at 1:30 p.m.
