Lewis Men’s Soccer Defeats Southwest Baptist, 2-0 For Fourth Straight Win

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Lewis University's men's soccer team captured its fourth straight win defeating Southwest Baptist, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon at Plaster Stadium in Bolivar, Mo. The Flyers improve to 5-4-1 overall and in the GLVC while the Bearcats fall to 3-6-1 overall and in the conference.

The two teams went back and forth from the kickoff, as the Bearcats and the Flyers attempted to get on the board early. Jimmy Mwanga's (Dublin, Ireland/CBS Lucan) first attempt sailed over the crossbar but before the end of the half, Mwanga netted his second attempt to put the Flyers up with an assist from Domenic Baumann (Bergheim, Germany/Brauweiler).

In the second half, the Flyers played more aggressively on defense, but the Bearcats registered three attempts to pressure the Flyers. Lewis responded with an attempt of their own by Matt Budreck (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) but his shot was saved by Will van Hoornbeek.

In the 70th minute, Lewis doubled up on Southwest Baptist courtesy of John Oshakpemhe's (Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria/Al-Mukhtar Secondary School) first goal of the season with an assist from Matthew Beaulieu (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North), to help the Flyers secure the road win.

Lewis outshot the Bearcats, 15-9, having eight shots on target. Baumann led the Flyers with four shots while Mwanga added three and Beaulieu, Oshakpemhe and Justin Darlage (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) had two shots apiece. Will Maurice (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) made one save in goal to record his second straight shutout.

Lewis returns to the pitch on Saturday (April 3) afternoon taking on Drury at 2:30 p.m.
