KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- Lewis University women's soccer team fell to Truman State, 2-0 at Bulldog Soccer Park on Sunday afternoon. The Flyers dropped to 1-5-1 overall and in the conference while the Bulldogs improve to 3-5 overall and in the GLVC.
Lewis was aggressive on defense in the first half of play as it was given two yellow cards and committing eight fouls to only two for Truman. The Bulldogs slipped past the defense in the 41st minute as Cassidy Gann hit a shot into the lower right corner of the goal with an assist from Kate Peterson.
The Flyers were outshot in the half, 7-0, with four of Truman's shots being on target and three were saved by
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England/).
The Bulldogs looked to extend their lead early in the second half but the Flyers defense kept them off the board until an error by Lewis resulted in an own goal in the 51st minute to extend the Bulldog lead.
Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) attempted to put the Flyers on the board in the 66th minute but it was turned away by Beth Hopwood.
Late in the game,
Julia Barenbaum (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah Community) missed an attempt that went high and right of the goal. The Bulldogs managed to take another shot before the end of the match, but it was saved by Clark.
Truman State dominated Lewis in shots taken, 13-3, nine of the shots on target. The Flyers were whistled for 13 fouls compared to five for the Bulldogs.
Lewis is back at home on Friday, March 26 as it hosts William Jewell at 3 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
