LOCKPORT, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team picked up its second straight win defeating crosstown rival St. Francis 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Challenge Fitness in Lockport, Ill. The Flyers even their record at 4-4 while the Fighting Saints fall to 1-2.
Lewis won all three doubles matches to secure the first point of the match.
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) opened the match with 6-0 win over Paul Wottgen and Erwan LeGuennec at No. 1 doubles. The Flyer duo of
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) won at No. 2 doubles defeating Daniel Espinosa and Martin Rayos Del Sol 6-4.
Earl Lim (/) and
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) won at No. 3 doubles over Javier Alonso Egea and Aidan Flores 6-3.
In singles competition it was Ramirez Mejia knocking off Egea 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles play it was Lusti getting the better of LeGuennec 6-3, 6-1, Ambrozic defeated Wottgen 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Trifunovic downed Espinosa 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles action, At No. 5 singles it was Sowa defeating Rayos Del Sol in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 to pick up his first win of the season. USF's John Hejl defeated Lim 7-5, 6-2.
The Flyers are back on the courts on Thursday as they travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., to take on Olivet Nazarene at 3:30 p.m.
