BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team defeated Olivet Nazarene, 5-2 for its third straight win on Monday afternoon at the Snowbarger Athletic Complex in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Flyers improve to 5-4 on the season while the Tigers drop to 3-8.
Lewis won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point of the match.
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) and
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) opened the match with 6-0 win over Carlo Cota and Taiga Kurosu at No. 1 doubles. The Tigers came back to win No. 3 doubles as Kyle Lingle and James Carr defeated
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and
Jonathan Maghirang (Woodridge, Ill./) 6-3. The Flyers won the No. 2 doubles match as
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) knocked off Jon Merki and Nick Bailey 6-2.
In singles action Lewis won four of the six matches including the first three to secure the victory. Ramirez Mejia opened the singles portion with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cota at No. 1 singles, at No. 2 singles it was Lusti defeating Kurosu 6-4, 6-4, Ambrozic beat Bailey 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, at No. 4 singles it was Trifunovic knocking off Lingle 6-2, 6-2. Sowa fell to Merki 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 singles and at No. 6 singles
Jeremy Charles (Grenada/Cedar International School) lost to Carr 6-2, 6-0.
The Flyers return the courts on Saturday (April 3) as they host the University of Indianapolis in the conference opener for both teams at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex at 2:30 p.m.
