ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team dropped its GLVC opener to fifth ranked Indianapolis, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex in Romeoville, Ill. The Flyers fall to 5-5, 0-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds improve to 7-1, 1-0 GLVC.
UIndy won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point of the match. Tom Zeuch and Yoann Viel defeated
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) 6-2 at No. 2 doubles to open the contest. Nikolaj Talimaa and Pedro Franca followed with a 6-3 win over
Jonathan Maghirang (Woodridge, Ill./) and
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) at No. 3 doubles. Lewis' number one duo of
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) knocked off Agustin Gascia and Renato Lima 7-6 (7-6).
In singles play, Ramirez Mejia got the Flyers on the board with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 win over Lima at No. 1 singles. Zeuch knocked off Lusti 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Ambrozic fell to Talimaa 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Koenig defeated Trifunovic 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 at No. 4 singles. Sowa lost to Jason Gerweck 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and
Jeremy Charles (Grenada/Cedar International School) fell to Max Witthaus 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Lewis returns to the courts on Friday (April 9) hosting McKendree at 2 p.m. at the Oremus Tennis Complex.
