ROMEOVIILLE, Ill. -- Lewis University women's soccer team played to scoreless draw against Rockhurst on an extremely windy Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium. The Flyers improved their record to 2-5-2 and the Hawks moved to 4-3-3.
The Flyers worked with the wind in the first half and managed to take four shots on the Hawks.
Elisa Aguilar (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East) had the best chance of the half as she put a free kick on goal that was tipped over the bar by Megan Meyers in the 39th minute.
Courtney Sengstock (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) had a chance nearly three minutes later that was saved by Meyers. Lewis outshot Rockhurst, 4-2 in the first 45 minutes and put all four on goal.
In the second half, both teams had an equal share of possession, but the Hawks had more chances to score. Elle Kimball had a chance for Rockhurst in the 52nd minute that sailed over the bar.
In the 57th minute, Elle Guttmann had her attempt down the middle and it was saved by
Lucy Clark (Bristol, England/). Sengstock managed to get a shot through the Hawks defense but it was saved by Meyers with 25 minutes remaining.
Towards the ends of the first overtime,
Grace DeVaux (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) had a chance to win the game with a shot to the bottom right corner, but it was saved by Meyers.
Both teams matched each other throughout the match, but Lewis was able to have more shots, 6-5. Rockhurst finished the contest with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Flyers are back in action on Thursday (April 1) traveling to Bolivar, Mo., to take on Southwest Baptist at 11 a.m.
