ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University's women's tennis team was defeated by Northern Illinois 6-1 on Friday evening at Chick Evans Field House in DeKalb, Ill. The Flyers drop to 1-1 on the season while the Huskies improve to 5-4.
NIU won the first two doubles matches as Paula Veyhle and Anastasia Rakita defeated Lewis'
Joie Reisch (La Grange Highlands, Ill./Lyons Township) and
Sophie Davis (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles it was Diana Lukyanova and Iullia Dmitrieva defeating
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) and
Agnes Florczyk (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) 6-2.
Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Garcia de Orta) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) picked up a win defeating Maria Potsi and Lara Slisko 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
In singles competiton the Huskies won five of the six matches.
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) defeated Christy Robinson 7-5, 7-6 (5-0) at No. 4 singles. Pedroso fell to Potsi 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles it was Rakita defeating Smith 6-4, 6-2. Reisch lost to Lukyanova 6-0, 6-1. In No. 5 singles action it was Veyhle defeating Sueflohn 6-3, 6-2 and in the final singles match Slisko beat Davis 6-1, 6-1.
The Flyers are back in action on Monday (March 8) hosting Michigan Tech at 10:45 a.m. at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
