PLAINFIELD, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team snapped a two-match skid by defeating Michigan Tech 5-2 on Monday at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill. The Flyers improve to 2-2 while the Huskies are 0-2.
Lewis won all three doubles contests to secure the first point of the match.
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) defeated Nico Caviglia and Ambarish Rao at No. 1 doubles to begin the match. At No. 3 doubles it was
Jonathan Maghirang (Woodridge, Ill./) and
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) knocking off Nacho Carbajosa and Ricardo Nunez 6-3.
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) defeated Siddhesh Mahadeshwar and Eli Pinnoo at No. 2 doubles 7-6 (7-4).
In singles competition the Flyers won the first four matches to clinch the victory. Lusti defeated Nunez in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles it was Ambrozic beating Pinnoo 6-1, 6-1, Ramirez Mejia knocked off Gonzalez 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 at No. 1 singles and at No. 4 singles it was Trifunovic defeating Caviglia 6-2, 6-1. Michigan Tech won the final two matches as Mahadeshwar beat Sowa 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while at No. 6 singles it was Carbajosa knocking off Maghirang 6-3, 6-2.
The Flyers continue their five-match home stand on Thursday hosting Chicago State at 9:15 a.m. at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill.
