KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lewis University's men's lacrosse team fell at Rockhurst 12-5 on Saturday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo. The Flyers drop to 3-6, 3-6 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 6-3 overall and in the GLVC.
Rockhurst got off to a quick start scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes. Blake Bellinger opened the scoring with a goal 4:13 into the contest with an assist from Jack Vande ven. Vande ven scored less than five minutes later with an assist from Sam Lindahl for his fifth goal of the season. Lindahl made it 3-0 with a goal with 2:27 remaining in the quarter.
Lewis responded scoring three goals in the span of 4:22 to open the second quarter and tie the game.
Keith Parkman II (San Diego, Calif./Serra) got the Flyers on the board with his third of the season with an assist from
Talon Heath (Elk River, Minn./Elk River).
Nate McLean (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) scored 0:45 later to cut the lead to 3-2 with an assist from
Micah Daigle (Erie, Pa./McDowell).
Thomas Purfeerst (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) tied the game with his 15th goal with 6:31 to play in the opening half.
The Hawks regained its three-goal lead scoring three times in the span of 65 seconds and took a 6-3 lead into halftime.
Lindahl made it 7-3 scoring 2:13 into the third quarter for his eighth of the season. Lewis came right back as
Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) scored his team leading 16th goal of the season. Rockhurst added two more goals in the frame to take a 9-4 lead into the final quarter.
The Hawks scored twice in the span of 0:42 early in the fourth quarter to extend its lead to seven.
Cole Roth (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) scored his first goal of the season for the Flyers with 10:56 to play to make it 11-5. Rockhurst tacked on a final tally with 1:27 to play on a man-up goal from Ricky Bloom.
The Hawks outshot the Flyers 54-31 in the contest and 30-15 in shots on goal. The Hawks won 14 of 20 faceoffs, scooped up 32 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers.
Parkman II, Purfeerst, Roth, Dalep and McLean had a goal each for Lewis. Daigle and
Jack Stone (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) had a team-high six shots.
Devon Pulido (Blaine, Minn./Centennial) scooped up four ground balls and
Xan Brouillet (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) won four faceoffs.
Josh Calvin (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame College Prepatory HS) made 18 saves in net.
The Flyers return home next Saturday (April 17) to take on ninth ranked Lindenwood at 3 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
