PLAINFIELD, Ill. – Lewis University's men's tennis team picked up its second straight win defeating Illinois Springfield 4-3 at Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield, Ill., on Saturday. The Flyers improve to 7-5, 2-1 GLVC while the Prairie Stars drop to 7-3, 1-2 GLVC.
Lewis picked up the first point of the match winning two of the three doubles contests. The tandem of
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) defeated Menno Servaes and Tomas Martinez 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) and
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) knocked off Nick Revin and Matthew Lapsley 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
On the singles side, the Flyers and UIS split the three matches with Lewis picking up wins at No. 1 as Ramirez Mejia defeated Servaes 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Ambrozic handed Revin a 6-3, 6-4 defeat at No. 3 singles and Trifunovic secured the victory for the Flyers defeating Rafa Rojas 6-1, 6-4 in No. 4 singles play.
Lewis is back in action next Friday as they travel down to Lindenwood to take on the Lions at 2 p.m.
