ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Lewis University men's tennis team edged Lindenwood 4-3 to pick up its third straight win on Friday afternoon at the Lindenwood Tennis Courts in St. Charles, Mo. The Flyers improve to 8-5, 3-1 GLVC while the Lions fall to 4-5, 0-3 GLVC.
Lewis dropped the number three doubles match as
Jonathan Maghirang (Woodridge, Ill./) and
Daniel Sowa (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) lost to Rodrigo Rattes and Horacio Callirgos 6-1. The Flyers took the opening point of the match as
Juan Martin Ramirez Mejia (Medellin, Colombia) and
David Ambrozic (Portoroz, Slovenia/) defeated Francisco Diaz and Hector Horcajada 6-3 at No. 1 doubles while
Oskar Lusti (Tallinn, Estonia/) and
Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) knocked off Juan Pablo Herrera and Juan Balbin 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
The Flyers won the first three singles matches to secure the victory. Ambrozic picked up the first of those wins defeating Diaz 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Lusti followed with a straight sets win over Horcajada 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and then Trifunovic sealed the victory with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Rattes at No. 4 singles.
Ramirez Mejia lost his match to Herrera 6-2, 1-6, 2-6 at No. 1 singles, Sowa fell to Balbin 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and
Jeremy Charles (Grenada/Cedar International School) lost to Albin 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Lewis is back in action on Saturday morning as they take on Maryville at 11 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.
